Questions people ask us about the Kambaku tent

How long does it take to set up a Kambaku Tent once it arrives?

The Kambaku tent takes to set up really depends on how ready your site is and how experienced your crew is. For most first-time builds, you can expect about 5 days to complete one tent from start to finish. Once your team gets the hang of it, that timeline usually drops to around 3 days per tent.

The single biggest factor in setup speed is whether the platform or deck is already in place and level. A well-prepared foundation makes everything move faster and smoother.

There’s also the option to have supervised setup. This means an experienced supervisor joins your team for the first installation, guiding them step by step.

Once one tent is done correctly, your crew will have the confidence and knowledge to handle the others. For larger projects with multiple tents, or when timelines are tight, this is often the smartest way to avoid costly mistakes or delays.

The Kambaku tent is built to feel like a permanent retreat, not just a camping shelter, and it all comes down to the materials. The frame uses a 50 mm steel roof system, which is much stronger than the lighter frames found in standard tents. For humid or coastal sites, you can choose stainless steel framing, which resists rust and corrosion long-term.

The fabric is treated polyester ripstop canvas. Unlike cotton, it doesn’t sag, rot, or stretch out of shape over time. It’s resistant to UV rays, mold, and mildew, which makes it ideal for tough climates. And because it’s ripstop, even a small tear won’t spread, keeping your structure secure.

To add comfort, you can also have insulation stitched between two layers of canvas. This not only keeps temperatures more stable but also reduces outside noise, creating a quieter and more private guest experience. The result is a tent that feels closer to a cabin in comfort, but with the flexibility of a modular design.

Yes, the Kambaku tent is designed for real-world climates and can be adapted to handle heat, storms, wind, and even snow.

In hot regions, the layered roofing system made of a shade fly, PVC rain fly, and canvas allows natural airflow between layers, acting like insulation. This reduces heat buildup during the day. Many owners also add ceiling fans, mini-split air conditioners, or even underfloor cooling systems for extra comfort.

For high winds, frame upgrades can be made to withstand up to 180 km/h (112 mph) or more, depending on your site conditions. Heavy rains are handled by the waterproof PVC rain fly, proper roof angles, and good drainage around the deck.

Snow requires extra planning. Steeper roofs, stronger frames, and additional reinforcement can all be built in to safely handle snow load. As for sun exposure, all materials are UV-treated to prevent fading and long-term fabric damage.

Whether your retreat is in a desert, mountain, or coastal environment, the tent can be adapted so it thrives in your location.

Absolutely. One of the biggest advantages of the Kambaku tent is that it’s not restricted to a fixed model. You can adapt the size, layout, and finishes to suit your project and your land.

Many owners choose to add features like wraparound decks, shaded verandas, or outdoor showers to elevate the guest experience.

Extra windows, custom doors, or even roof styles can be added to maximize views and natural light. Even the color of the canvas and the finish of the frame can be tailored to match the look of your retreat, whether you’re going for rustic, minimalist, or luxury safari vibes.

This flexibility is one of the reasons why resort and retreat owners prefer the Kambaku Tent. Instead of forcing your project to fit a standard tent, the tent adapts to your vision and your environment.

Yes, and this is one of the big advantages compared to permanent buildings. The Kambaku tent is modular and designed to be disassembled and relocated if necessary.

For example, if you’re building on leased land, or you need to move your retreat to a new site in the future, the tent can be taken apart and reassembled without losing its structural integrity. Even if you’ve added features like custom doors or windows, the modular design means the tent can still be managed and rebuilt elsewhere.

This flexibility is also valuable in regions prone to hurricanes, flooding, or wildfires. Unlike a fixed building, the tent can be taken down as a precaution and then reinstalled when it’s safe. It gives you the comfort of a permanent space with the adaptability of a temporary one.

Yes. The Kambaku tent uses canvas that is treated to meet several international fire-retardant standards, including BS7837 (UK), NFPA701 (US), and CPAI-84 (California).

This treatment means the canvas will resist catching fire and will not continue burning once the flame source is removed. It’s not completely fireproof (no fabric is), but it does provide critical safety if guests use heaters, lanterns, or there are open flames nearby.

For retreat owners, this adds an important layer of protection. While good fire safety practices should always be in place, having fire-retardant materials built into the tent itself gives both you and your guests more peace of mind.

From design approval to delivery, most projects take around 3 to 4 months. Production of the tent itself usually takes 8 to 10 weeks. After that, shipping time depends on the method you choose.

Ocean freight is the most common option, taking around 30 to 45 days, while air freight is much faster at 5 to 7 days but comes at a higher cost. Some owners choose to air ship a single tent first to get started on setup, and then ship the rest by sea to balance speed and budget.

Planning ahead is key, especially if your retreat has seasonal opening dates or weather considerations. Starting early ensures your tents arrive and are installed on schedule.

There’s no flat cost per square foot for the Kambaku tent because every project is unique. The price depends on factors like tent size, layout, framing choice, insulation, canvas type, add-ons like decks or verandas, and of course, shipping.

Since each project is different, pricing is always tailored to your site and your plans. Once details such as the number of tents, location, and intended use are shared, you’ll receive a clear, customized quote.

Keep in mind that the cost of the tent itself doesn’t include things like flooring, plumbing, or interior design. Those will be managed separately based on your project setup.

The ordering process is designed to make sure you get exactly what you’re envisioning. It begins once you’ve finalized your tent design and features. From there, an invoice and initial freight estimate are sent to you.

Detailed drawings are then created for your review and approval. Once those are signed off, they’re turned into a CAD file, and production begins after a 75% deposit is received.

About two weeks before production finishes, you’ll receive the final freight quote and balance invoice (25% + shipping). After this is paid, your shipping date is confirmed and your tent is packed for transport. Payments are made via wire transfer only.

This step-by-step process ensures the tent is built exactly as you intended, with opportunities to review and approve before it moves into production.

The more detail you can share upfront, the more accurate and helpful your proposal will be. At a minimum, it helps to provide:

  • Where the tent will be located (including climate and terrain details)
  • • How you plan to use it (guest stays, spa, private retreat, restaurant, etc.)
  • • Whether the site is near the ocean or in a humid area (this affects frame choice)
  • • How many tents you’re considering and preferred square footage per unit
  • • Any maps, sketches, or land photos you have
  • • Your ideal timeline for delivery and installation

This information allows the design team to tailor the proposal to your project, making sure the Kambaku tent matches both your vision and your site conditions. The clearer your vision is, even in rough form, the faster and more precise the recommendations will be.
